Text Box: In Loving Memory. . . .
Text Box: Clayton Dale Covert

Our beloved father, grandfather, brother, and friend, Clayton Dale Covert, 87, of Marysville, Washington, passed away on June 8, 2010.
Clayton is preceded in death by parents, Alfred and Lillian Covert; and his sister, Shirley Olsen.
He was born April 14, 1923 in Everett, Washington and graduated from Everett High School in 1941 whereupon he immediately entered the Coast Guard to serve his country during World War II. While stationed in Alaska, he met and married Rhoda Hanford. They remained married for 60 years until the death of his beloved wife two years ago.
Clayton worked as a millwright for Weyerhaeuser Company until he retired in 1984. Prior to working at Weyerhaeuser, Clayton was a milkman for Darigold.

He began racing pigeons in 1939, but had to take a break from it while he served his country. He was not able to return to his love of racing until 1976. Clayton started small, but soon had 75 birds. As the Race Secretary for the Everett Racing Pigeon Club, he tallied the results of the races and kept track of the participants. He found kinship among his fellow racers, some of whom still survive him.
Clayton is survived by a sister, Caroly Lindblad; two daughters, Kathy Jensen and Alicia Mose; one son, Dale Covert; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m., June 26, at Schafer-Shipman Funeral Home, Marysville, WA.
Donations can be made in Clayton's honor to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research at michaeljfox.org
